Put PDF attachments in the right order

Combine a cover letter, form and supporting documents into one PDF. Check the order and page count before sending it.

A seven-page application pack

A one-page cover letter, a two-page form and four pages of supporting documents make a seven-page PDF. Put the cover letter first, followed by the form and supporting documents. Reordering files does not change the page order within each file.

Set the order in Merge PDF

  1. Add the cover letter, form and supporting documents to Merge PDF. Drag the file cards or use the arrows to arrange them in that order. Clear filenames help you recognise the files, but do not set their order.
  2. Enter a password beside any PDF that requires one, then select “Merge PDFs”. You can add 2–10 PDFs, up to 25 MB each and 500 pages in total.

Check where each document starts

  • For this example, check that the result has seven pages: one cover letter, two form pages and four pages of supporting documents.
  • The form should start on page 2, and the supporting documents on page 4. Check for repeated or missing pages where the documents join.
  • Check the page order within each document too. To change it, rearrange the pages in the original file before merging.

Keep the signed originals

The merged PDF does not retain the passwords on the original files. Interactive forms, bookmarks and digital signatures may also be affected. Keep the originals, especially if the recipient requires the original signed documents.
